HVAC installation for buildings in Badalona

Design and installation of HVAC systems in commercial buildings in Badalona, with equipment and locations chosen for the coastal environment and the constraints of each property.

Installing HVAC in Badalona means thinking about two things you will not find in a manufacturer's catalogue: the salt air that surrounds much of the town, and the constraints of buildings that in many cases were never designed to house HVAC equipment. This page is for owners, managers and technical leads preparing a new installation or the replacement of a system in a commercial property in Badalona.

Equipment designed for a salty environment

An outdoor unit installed near the sea starts to corrode from day one. Decisions taken at the design stage can extend its working life:

  • Factory anti-corrosion coil treatment on the most exposed units.
  • Corrosion-resistant brackets, plinths and fixings.
  • Outdoor enclosures and electrical panels with a suitable protection rating.
  • Locations sheltered from direct sea winds, without creating enclosed spaces where the unit recirculates its own air.
  • Easy access to the coils, because on the coast they will need frequent cleaning.

Residential blocks and ground-floor shops

Much of Badalona's building stock was built during the urban growth of the second half of the twentieth century, with dense blocks and shops on the ground floor. When one of these shops is air-conditioned, the challenge is rarely the equipment itself: it is where to put the outdoor unit, how to route pipework and drains, and how to obtain the owners' association's consent. The proposal sets out the possible routes and indicates which permissions the owner needs to obtain, along with any municipal façade rules that may apply.

Schools, care homes and offices

In schools, the works are planned for the school holidays. In care homes, the work proceeds zone by zone so that occupied rooms stay conditioned. In offices with several zones of use, a VRF system or a fan-coil installation allows each space to be controlled separately; the differences are explained under VRF and fan-coil systems.

Industrial and logistics units

These buildings combine large volumes, exposed roofs and, in many cases, industrial refrigeration needs. The survey establishes which areas genuinely need air conditioning (offices, changing rooms, preparation areas) and which only need ventilation or temperature control. Because we also carry out electrical installations, panels and automation, power supply and controls are handled within the same project.

Organising the works

The survey and technical proposal are prepared after visiting the building. Equipment and materials are received and prepared at the Sabadell warehouse, and the works are phased to coordinate access, loading and unloading on narrow streets, and coexistence with occupants. Work that cannot coincide with normal activity can be carried out out of hours if arranged in advance. The full service is described under HVAC installation for buildings.

What to prepare

  • Approximate distance from the sea and the orientation of the roof or façade where the equipment would go.
  • Photos or drawings of the roof, light wells and façade.
  • Any agreements or restrictions from the owners' association, if the premises are part of a residential building.
  • Contracted electrical capacity and the condition of the main distribution board.
  • The activity calendar and the periods when works are possible.

On completion, each unit is documented and labelled, including its exposure to the marine environment, so that HVAC maintenance in Badalona starts with complete information.

Frequently asked questions

Are coils with anti-corrosion treatment worth it in Badalona?

For units on roofs or façades exposed to sea winds it is usually a sensible choice, because it protects the heat-exchange surface for longer. In a sheltered courtyard away from the coast the benefit is smaller. It is assessed location by location, and it never replaces regular coil cleaning.

Where should the outdoor unit go on a building near the sea?

Wherever possible on the side least exposed to sea winds, but without boxing it into a light well where it recirculates its own hot air. It must also stay accessible for coil cleaning and away from neighbours' windows because of noise. There is usually a balance to strike between these conditions, and the technical proposal explains it.

Does the electrical installation need upgrading to air-condition an older building?

Sometimes. The available power, the condition of the distribution board and the cable sizes of the circuits that will feed the equipment are checked. Because we also carry out electrical installations and panels, any upgrade can be included in the same project, without relying on another contractor to complete commissioning.

Can a school's HVAC be replaced during the holidays?

Yes, with planning. It is best to carry out the survey and agree the proposal months ahead so the equipment is available when the holidays begin. The most disruptive work is concentrated in that period, and finishing touches that cause no disturbance can be completed once term has started.
